You and your partner agreed to play 12-14 NT.
1NT shows 6-9(10) HCP and denies a 4-card-major.
Is the hand worth another bid? Or do you prefer to pass.

Is there any difference in your answer, if you play 15-17 NT?

At MP I would pass and tough out 1NT at IMPS I would try for our sure 8+ card minor fit with 2♣

The fact they have heart length and aces means that NT will play very badly for us compared to a minor suit contract. This has all the signs of being a hand where the minor suit will play two tricks better.

Partner has at most 3-3 in the majors and therefore must have a four-card minor. So, we have a minor fit, and the opponents have a 9-card heart fit.

That said, bad things can happen if you bid. If partner has a minimum, he will pass 2♣ or bid 2♦, in which case the opponents will often find their heart fit. Of course, then you can rebid 2♠ and maybe find the 4-3 spade "fit" for a decent score, as well, except that the spade ruffs are coming on the wrong side. So, you may end up in 3♣ or 3♦ in the end. That migt not be the end of the world, though.

Plus, partner might have a five-card club suit, which seems nice.

IMO, all things considered, 2♣ feels right.

Even if partner should turn up with 10 HCP, I'm not sure we want to be in a game, and it's unlikely to be worth looking for anyway.

If our NT range were 15-17, I would have opened 1NT.

That's it. This was the complete hand:

1NT is down 1 at least (losing 5♥ and 2 Aces) while you can make 3-4♦.

So even in MPs 2♣ is the better bid (imho).

Looks like an obvious 2c bid to me. Pd has denied a 4 card Major. I am not bidding 2c as a gt, but to find the best contract as we have a known minor suit fit.

Hi,

It is either pass or 2C.

If you bid 2C now, you reopen the bidding, and they may be able to
locate their 9 card heart fit, the 2C bid made it easier for them.
If you pass, East has to bid, or they dont locate their heart fit.

For me, I would say, this is a mood point.
