if partner has Axxx, and at most 2 hearts for his double, we already have 6+ 2 heart ruffs in dummy for 8 tricks

The double by North is so obvious to most. I look at it differently.

1) North really can't pass.
2) Double not only has less than ideal shape, but also does not have 4 spades to compensate.
3) 1NT shows the size and shape, with one little flaw --which a transfer to hearts or a later cue can uncover if necessary.

And, as luck would have it, the NT overcall would keep us out of the spade game and rest us in a partial.

Double not only has less than ideal shape, it also lacks four spades, and on top of that it is too long in hearts, additionally it doesn't even have two four card minors. For these 17 reasons I think double is wrong. B)

Confusion...slowly dawning...Ahhh, now I get it, those were all the same reason(s), but restated in several different ways...I hope? I need someone to put sarcasm font on these things...

actually, no. They are three separate things. Josh is not beyond Joshing, but this is not one of those times.
"Ideal"=4-1-4-4, hence less than ideal.
"4-X-X-X" would be less than ideal but still have four of the focus Major.
Having JXX of hearts is a true third flaw.

That's like saying if my proper healthy weight is 160 pounds and I really weigh 190 pounds then there are 3 problems with my weight. That I'm over the ideal weight of 160, and I'm not even under 170 to be close, and that I'm all the way to 190 which is even worse.

To be fair, I cheated in my analysis of whether Josh was using sarcasm by looking at his earlier thoughts on this problem, when he clearly said that he thought X was best. My 2nd grade teacher would appreciate my use of context clues in reading comprehension.

No, Gibson, you were right. I made the mistake of thinking he changed his mind and supporting that change.
