Please don't even dream of rescuing partner here ! There is no reason to think 5♦ will play better than 4♠x.

I wouldn't raise to 4♦ here without another trump. And if I did, I'd like to be reasonably certain of what to do when the opps carry on to 4♥.

To me, the 4♠ bid is not as bad as many here think. PD is allowed to have a card or two of support and your K♦ could be really useful. Still the 4♠ bid needs to catch PD with just the right hand to make and there will be times that the opps (who often carry onto to 4♥ on momentum) can't make it.

South's 4♠ bid could work out great if it makes, or if it is -1 when 4♥ is cold, or if the opps don't double it when 4♥ makes and 4♠ doesn't (not terribly likely, but we've seen it before).

I blame South here, but it isn't a terrible crime, IMHO.
