You hear the following auction at MP, partner as dealer:

1 - 4 - Pass - 4NT
Pass - 5 - Pass - 6
X - All Pass

How do you take partner's double?

Well I wouldn't lead a club.... I think... I'd have to see a hand.

But I have a feeling partner can see we're setting this regardless.

Maybe partner has short clubs headed by the AK and no raise... idk. Yeah I think I'd probably lead a club actually. :)

Very clearly Lightner to me.

Maybe partner has a void, maybe he opened 1 with a bunch of small clubs and an outside AK, maybe he thinks 6 is going down on any lead. But whatever is happening, he has asked me not to lead a club.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I also think this is clearly lightner. If doubler has two tricks with a club lead she should just pass.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Lightner, if in doubt I would lead a spade.

I wonder how often responder will guess right when opener doubles on AK in a major.

Yep but maybe not more often than when you have an agreement that double asks for spades (or for hearts).

I've voted for 'don't lead a club', but I think opener is expecting it to go off on most leads.

Playing a 5CM style method, as the opening leader, I would lead from any K or Q I had in any suit (other than trumps), effectively treating the opening bid as a non-specific value-showing noise. I don't think partner was really expecting a club lead, so the double doesn't really say 'don't lead clubs', but it does imply that he wants us to do something we wouldn't usually do.

One of the most likely scenarios is that partner has two cashing aces, and the 4NT bidder didn't think before bidding.

I agree with you Frances, but again, if in doubt, I will lead a spade because it is the only suit bid by the opponents, sure, it wasn't bid naturally, but at least it was bid and hearts were not.
