Scoring: IMP

LHO opens 2 and this is passed to you. It's IMPs, red vs. white. You're not playing equal level correction doubles.

What's your call?

I really don't know what is right, but the chances for game seem to be too great to pass this and would double. I would be more likely to pass at MPs and/or white vs red.

I guess this is equivalent to nasty hand.

You have too much to pass but I have no idea what is best. When considering an opening bid we have the philosophy of bidding NTs as often as possible on hands that are balanced or nearly balanced and will be hard to bid so maybe Justin's suggestion of 2NT is best.

Nightmare. I think 2NT is best, but I hate it. It seems like we probably need a simulation to settle this.

Since I got 3 spades, there's not a lot of rush in acting. Pard should be short in spades and he'll balance if we got a game.

However, if pard is of the shy variant, I'll dbl. Even despite not playing ELC :)

I don't feel strongly about 2N vs pass. Off-shape is not an issue but the values are marginal, IMHO. Dbl with this hand would require ELC, afraid we don't play that (if we did, this one would not be a problem).

ah ok... I hate when people say "pass to you". I never quite figure out what that means.. lol

Anyway, I still pass if pard is aggressive or dbl if pard is shy.

Hmm this is tough. I guess I go with 2NT.

This is definitely a Double for me with ELC. I don't like 2NT at all.

4 is too likely here opposite the right 8 count. I guess I double but I don't mind 2N.

As a follow-up question, say you double and partner bids either:

(1) 2NT lebensohl.

(2) 3 natural, promising some values (typically 8 with a five-card suit to 11 or so)

What's your plan now?

3 over either.

I know this shows extras not playing ELC, but I made a calculated risk when I doubled to find hearts.
