Worth one more?

(assuming I'm sitting opposite myself - 3♠ 2nd seat V/NV should promise a nice hand)

Look your partner opened second seat a preempt. These should be "sound" preempts under whatever range of preempts you play. Second, you ARE VUL and they are not at imps. He really should have a fair shot for 9 tricks in his hand. Your spade queen was enough to raise to game. You have an additional ACE and king. Slam should have some chance if they can not cash two quick tricks in hearts or two aces. I expect the two ACE problem will be our downfall for slam, so I would bid 4♠, but change my club King to club ACE, and I cue-bid 4♣.

Slam? Lol. I would obviously boost it to 4 though.

Give pard ♠AK-7th. We have 9 off the top with the ♣A well placed. To get 10, we need a little help. Pard may have it or he might not, but you bid your games and apologize if you go down.

This is not serious, you are not thinking in slam!!
4♠ is ok. If you win slam in this hand is because partner have to open 1♠

I am with Justin... with at least two of my partners, game rates to be below even the red-at-imps odds, but with others, it rates to be about 40-50%. I'd go opposite them... heck, I'd probably go anyway, since some of the time that game fails, it goes down 2 (hence 3 fails as well). And, one thing is known: we are not going to get doubled
BTW, no partner of mine would hold, as an example, AKxxxxx x Kxx xx.. that's a 1♠ bid.

So many experts, not enough X cards.

Well before all of you rip me a new one, let me remind you.
1- This is imps, not matchpoints
2- We are 2nd seat not first
3- We are vulnerable and they are not
I expect to be no more than one down under these circumstances for a "preempt". If you don't play SOUND PREEMPTS at this type of contest under these conditions then you never will.
And for the record, I am know for preempting in as few as four card suits under other conditions. Richard got very angry at me once for a four card preempt with him (not vul versus vul at matchpoints). Normally I usually have at least five cards at those condtions.

yes, being red vs. green, partner promises
at most -2, I have 2 sure tricks (Queen of spade
and the Ace) and a fair chances for a 3rd (king of
clubs).
With kind regards

Ben, could you give us an example of a 9-trick hand that would open 3S?

I passed 3♠, LHO doubled and RHO bid 4♥, which drifted one off with only 8 tricks available in spades. Glad to see my actions had some support!

(P)-3♠-(P)-?
