Played at the club again, interesting set of boards, two worthy of mention.

This board was 100% flat in 3N+3, do you even look at a slam ? difficult with 10♠ in the short hand

Also - if partner bids a quantitative 5N (bid 6 or 7) - what does 6 of a suit mean ?

We had an auction where I'd ostensibly showed a 2344 17-19, partner produced 5N and I bid 6♦.

5NT with these cards?

The 5NT bidder is guaranteeing 6NT and looking for 7NT. Since we are going to at least 6NT, the 6x bid shows features in the suit and suggests 7x as a contract.

Well, East has to open unless you are playing a strange opening method showing the West hand.

I don't believe there is any method to slam with normal bidding. Edit. Corrected

Yes, after 3NT, bid 4NT, West has a tough decision..
If I need swing or push, go for it, otherwise Pass

1S 1N 3C.

3C is one of ‘almost a 2C opening with long spades’ or 5=4 or 6=4 majors or spades and clubs, all three variants gf.

Now 3D is not quite mandatory but is the correct call here, to allow partner to define his hand

1S 1N 3C 3D 3H shows the 4 card heart suit.

Responder has a difficult call. The spade 10 is often a good card (not just this hand but, say, AQJ9x or AKJ9x) but the rest of the cards are difficult to evaluate. I think all he can do is a conservative 3N…it’s not as conservative as 4N would be (very) aggressive

The only other option I see is 3S by responder. That might fetch 4D by opener but opener might worry it shows 5440. It might also fetch 4N. But I think all of these are at best dubious. I’d expect to play 3N unless we both decided to be very aggressive.

That’s rarely good at mps.

The spade hand dealt, we were defending, would have been more interesting if W dealt for us, I'd have opened 1♣

I still haven't convinced a partner to try Gazzilli, so we would usually end up in 3N.
In my (dormant) rogue NT partnership this might go:
2NT (20-21) - 3♣ ("Stayman")
3♠ (5=)
and then we reach a schmoysian 6♠.

Undiscussed I would assume "decide between 7 in suit and 7N".

No one's mentioned this but it looks like 6S is the best slam contract but the lead of spade and spade makes this slam a lot more dicey given totally normal 42 and 43 breaks. Declarer will need to guess what squeeze to play for.

Guessing what squeeze is not yet among my better skills, alas.
I would probably just pull the remaining trumps and cash diamonds AK then finesse if J has not dropped, which looks to be a 55% line.

Draw trumps, cash the ♥AK first and play AK and ruff a club, if lefty has ♦Jxxx and sole control of clubs or hearts, or righty has ♦Jxx(x) and sole control of hearts you're golden.

Also I think Jxx offside is more likely than Jxxx onside

To wrap up the story of the other hand:

Partner had:

KQJxx, KQxx, AQ, Kx

The auction was: with the other hand opening

1♦(4+)-1♠
1N (15-bad 19)-2♣ (ask)
3♣ (17-bad 19, 4-4m)-3♥(4SF)
3N-5N
6♦

and partner fell off the planet and bid 6N, basically I've shown 3 aces and the ♦K and have 2 more points, so even if spades don't split I have a jack that guarantees 13 tricks

I actually had Ax, AJ, KJ10xx, Axxx and that was 16 tricks

I think 6♦ should show a minimum and a potential source of tricks, partner should decide the ♦Q is golden even if his hand is less promising.
