Hoping that medical issue turns out to be nothing

Echo that, wishing a speedy recovery

Thanks for the update, and best wishes for a positive outcome of the medical tests. Getting old sucks.

I don't know Dunitz but I do know Itabashi, they seem like an unlikely pair. Dunitz sounds like someone I'd like to play against; highly competent, ethical with a little mischief and humour.

I agree with your view on polls. I don't think there is any excuse for a Director not to poll peers of players in the top flight. When it comes to the rest of the field it is also problematic due to the experience, style and myriad of ways this game is played. I don't know what the answer is.

Jxxxxx void KQxxx xx is an interesting hand playing Multi, I don't know what I'd do.

Good to see the Island taking the Penticton KO's :)

Good to hear that you're likely okay, mikeh - I'd actually heard about this Sunday evening in Penticton.

We played Tom and Ryley the second round of the Swiss after you'd trounced them, and I don't think they'll mind me saying that they were very appreciative of the advice that you (or your teammates - I don't know which) gave them.

I have a good deal of sympathy for the director here. There are 600 bridge players in the room, out of which maybe a dozen at most are mikeh's peers, four of whom are at the table. Most of the rest are playing on the other side of the room, so the director running the pairs is only dimly aware they're around. Among the collective brain trust of the directors, I'm sure they have a good idea who mikeh's peers are (though mikeh might disagree on some of them), but identifying and tracking them down for a poll is a good deal of effort. It's also an unusual situation where the identity of LHO is certainly a factor, and it's the kind of problem that separates expert from world class. So I think, practically speaking, you have to accept that, once there is UI, you're reduced to the average flight A player and lose your edge.

I disagree. Hopefully you know who your top players are and who is likely to be at this event. A little pre planning to identify who you can poll and a list of alternative players you can phone can’t be that onerous to compile can it? I think the top flight deserves better treatment.
