Report the player to the BBO Abuse account. There are way too many of these clowns who disrupt the game by making totally frivolous bids. I remember trying out a poker site's free playing area. I found multiple opponents going all in every single hand with nothing which is the equivalent of randomly bidding a grand.

He still found a line to go down in this cold small slam

How might he have made it?

I would say that this declarer would never make it. As I said, this player is a clown, not a "duck".
Yesterday, played in my 1st Express Free TCR Automated Fun Tournament
After 2 boards, I was on 65%
When partner punished me for my slight overbid of 3♥
Perhaps the software should automatically expel players who habitually leap to daft grand-slams and redouble.
