Preempt or not?

What happens if we pass and the hand belongs us. Say partner opens 1H. Now what? How are you going to find your slam if partner has a good hand with the ♣Ax? How is partner going to know that in addition to our meager HCP and heart support we have a 7-card club suit? But if we open 3C and partner bids 3H we bid 3S or 4D. Now partner knows we have heart support with outside controls along with a long club suit.
If the hand belongs to the opps, we have stopped them from using their fancy gadgets and forced them to guess.
If the hand is a push, 3C will buy the contract and is probably the right place.

1) Tells p I have more hcp outside of clubs then in
2) Tells p I have side 4 card major
3) Tells p I have void.
4) More important to obstruct opp then have constructive auction with UPH.

I'm going to pass.
If I open this hand, I'm opening 1♣. The combination of a void + a chunky 4 card major is too much of a position to consider a preempt.

Funny I have never won a trick with a void in my life :-)
I believe that the USA currently hold only the World Championship For People Who Still Bid Like Your Auntie Gladys - dburn
dunno how to play 4 card majors - JLOGIC
True but I know Standard American and what better reason could I have for playing Precision? - Hideous Hog

are you afraid of losing ♥ fit?
your hand will make about 2x trricks playing in ♣ tan ♥ normally. I don't really wanna find a 4-4♥ fit if there is one there. 5-4 might be another hsitory, but partner wouldl have 2 honnors in the suit andmight bid it by himself.
Obvious 3♣ to me.

Pard's hand was: 10863, KJ10864, A93, void. We were on for 6S as everything behaved as it should - alas, we did not get there, LoL.
Opposite xx, QJ108xx, K1082, x, we might as well defend 3C as to stretch for 3H.
In my view, when a hand is playable in two suits, the void is the problem, as with a fit for either suit the hand grows enormously in value and you can never "catch up" in the bidding after the weakness announcing preempt. In the hand my partner held, take away one of those little spades and turn it into a club and the hand might easily go down in 4S with either a 4-1 break or a diamond ruff.
So, because my partner doesn't allow me to open 1 with these sorts of hands, I am resigned to passing.

I do not like Pass at all. The call is as artificial as a strong 1♣ and strong 2♣, and seems misguided when you have something useful to say. I view passing as refusing to take the blame for a possible accident. 1♣ is somewhat better, but also doesn't do justice to this hand.
