You play with an ok player, but who thinks he is better than he is.

Dealer west, IMPS, nobody vulnerable.

W - N - E - S
ps -1 -ps -1
3 -4*-ps -4NT
ps -5*-ps -??

4*: partner cannot have 4-5 nor 5-6 since only exceptions to a 1 opening with those holdings require a very good suit.

5*: it is either 3 or 0!.

I'm gonna pass. Expecting pard to have

xx

AQxxx
KJxxxx

and has evaded the "system". Of course, he can also have

x
x
AQxxx
KJxxxx

but I'm not going to guess that at this level.

Makes perfect sense to me. If you have a specific K ask for the club suit you're all set, although I confess I'd be in 7.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy - but it might improve my bridge.

Possible? Yes. But it's also clear as mud.

It's the kind of bid that, if done in a new partnership, is prone to major misunderstandings. I would never do it

Pard will also bid on with the 3 key cards over 5. Would I be making a slam try with zero keys?

If 4 is natural suit, then North has not control but with about 16 HCPs;otherwise 4 is more reasonable.
