IMP pairs, all green. LHO deals and opens 1D (better minor, could be 3 if 4432), followed by 2 passes. What now with
x
AQJ
AJ987xx
Ax
Nice hand that would be an easy pass if they were red as we would just sit and count the hundred-point underticks.

Collecting 150 might still be great, as it outscores anything you can make below game.
And game is not that likely given that our Partner could not act over 1♦ though most likely short
3NT needs spades well stopped as ♦ are easily double stopped
4♥ might be played in a 4-3 fit and fail due to ♠-wastage

We've already established that the hand is a potential misfit, and the opener is over you. If partner cannot squeeze a 1♠ overcall out of his hand, I'd rather pass at green too. Let's aim for +150 as a score instead of +110 or +120. The only contract I am scared of missing is 4♥ if partner turns up with a six timer with ♥KT9xxx. Doubling and then bidding ♦s will just be misinterpreted whatever way you look at it, and a 1NT overcall will probably lead to partner transferring to ♠s.

pass!

For the fact, we collected 150 as expected by some of you. 3NT was a shaky contract normally going gown as nothing split favorably and H were blocked (Kxxx with partner but 10xxx for opener).

I'd probably pass as well, but how many people would think of 2d? I think, in the pass out seat, that it's no longer Michaels but should show this kind of hand. I do know that 2n here is not unusual and shows a strong balanced hand, so logically, 2d should show diamonds. The reason I wouldn't bid this, though, is the suit isn't good enough to produce tricks in a likely notrump contract.

....... is that if I make 2♦ for +90 I was beating 1♦ for +100 (at least).

An easy PASS.Can not visualise a game as partner did not find even an overcall at one level.

I have read (and believe) that losers pass, and winner balance. But in this case, I have no reason to bid.
What would I bid? Not 1NT-no spade stopper. Not 1 heart-only a 3 card suit. So there is no bid that I could make. And, if I were to make a balancing double, partner would respond in spades-and we would be playing in a 4/1 fit.
So there is no bid I can make-and I would pass.

When the biggest feature of your hand is the opponents suit, it's probably wrong to balance.
With 7 ♦, you know that between you and opener there are at least 10. So it's highly likely that partner had ♦ shortness, yet couldn't make a takeout double or an overcall.
Pass. Take your positive and move on. The opponents are not in a good place, so let them stay there.
