bidding 2H over simply passing 2D.

THe bot bid 2H assuming partner has bid on a 5332 hand or similar and figured it had higher EV in 2H, than 2D, OTOH the other GIB assumed partner might bid like this with a 6 card, and decided to it is better than correcting to 2S. Bad luck

That's forcing 1N. 2♦ could 3. Is probably 4 but you can't count on 5.
Sure is easy to pass 2♦ looking at the hands but worst case for pass is missed 5-3 and playing in 3-3

It is a close decision but I sympathize with 2H. The hand has enough shape that game could be good if partner can raise.

I think that it is not appropriate to inferfere with Gib's choice, nor to question it. This is a specious topic.
