Hi, myself and my Pard, we are not total strangers to each other, but we do have flaws in our understandings. (we play SAYC)

Found ourselves in this contract, I would like your opinion of all the bidding and also, the 2 diamond transfer as I thought this was rather a good bid, all thoughts and comments are welcomed

East original pass is also helpful... and strange.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

i don't understand the e/w bidding... why in the world would east pass? as for n/s, the only thing to say concerns south's 1nt... if that's what you'd expect for a 1nt balance, then the rest of the bidding makes perfect sense

Why didn't East bid? Why didn't East X 2H?

Nothing wrong with the protective 1N bid. Its a bit of a toss up between 1N and 1S; either could be right.

I can spot 3 sensible people at the table. East is not one of them.

Partner cannot have just 1 HCP in this auction at the point you bid 1NT because EW cannot have 28 HCP when they bid 1 pass pass. That this was the case after all was not NS's fault. If East didn't double 2 I would have ruled "asleep". Now... I dunno.
