Interesting. How are the ranks determined?

In a first stage, all BBO players were eligible.
1) From Sept. 15 to Oct 29 everyone's results were tracked in three separate divisions (A: ranks 10 and above plus all BBO stars; B: ranks 2 to 9, C: free tourney players). Top 100 in each division qualified further to the final round --> a total of 300 players entered next round.
2) These 300 players competed from Nov 2 to 15, by playing Instant Tournaments and trying to score as high as possible. At the end of the period, Top 3 in each division won.

The contest with live running scores was posted in news through the whole period, from September until November, and announced in advance too via news, social media and ads on BBO.

Interesting example of mechanism design.
The design of the meta tournament strongly encouraged players to adopt very high variance strategies.
1. Only your good scores count towards qualification
2. The tournaments consist of lots of every short events which further regards high variance play
Those 98% games are produced by psyching on most every hand and hoping that the bridge gods are going to reward you.
This is a perfectly valid response to a very flawed tournament design.
Not really sure what it has to do with bridge.

That seems to be a popular strategy among many of the most successful robot tourney players. The bots are very easy to fool.
