Strange Gib lead and discarding

Gib W lead 4 strangely,dummy 3,Gib E strangely discard 2 !
I don't know what to make of Gib's odd behaviour.

East played the 2, he did not discard it. "Discard" means "play a card that is neither (a) of the suit led, because you don't have any of those, nor (b) a trump".

Since S has a heart void, it doesn't matter what spot E plays.

OP is talking about Trick 1, where the play goes 4,3,2(!),8

So is he, according to the description, South has 3+D, 4+C and twice rebiddable S (ie 6 of them), ergo he has no hearts.
