1. If the bidding went as below, what would South's hand look like for his jump bid? Is this a sequence with a fairly standard meaning (i.e expert standard)?

2. What would South's hand typically look like in the below sequence? Is this a standard meaning?

3. And how about this jump by South after partner made a GF bid?

I would usually assume fast arrival, thus...

This should be a picture bid showing a long & strong suit with very little outside, i.e. almost a 4 opener, just slightly stronger.

Playing 2/1

1. I play this to show a somewhat minimum opening with no useful values (controls) in the unbids.
2. 3 card support, minimum values and likely nuthin much in the reds.
3. This sequence doesn't exist for me. Seems like an anti-system bid.

I play that this specifically denies 1st or 2nd round control in either side suit. This makes it easy for responder to make an accurate judgement about slam .. which is necessary since all of your bidding space is now gone.

2. What would South's hand typically look like in the below sequence? Is this a standard meaning?

Again, minimum hand *AND* no first or second round control in the unbid suit.

**

3. And how about this jump by South after partner made a GF bid?

This depends on your maximum possible values for opening 4M, and your requirements for jumping to 3M in this sequence. Obviously, it should show a different hand type than the previous 2.
If no one comes from the future to stop you from doing it then how bad a decision could it really be?

1 and 2 are picture bids for me. A 5422 shape with all the strength in the 2 suits.
3 is a minimum hand with 6+ very good hearts.

On the first, most I know play this as a dead minimum with less than "two with the Queen" as an RKCB response.

On the second, picture jump (good support, great clubs, no side controls).

On the third, long and weak.

Apparently those who believe #2 has only 3-card support use J2N with four regardless of the (perhaps better) prepared picture bid. If 2/1 is game forcing, the hand with good clubs and only 3-card spade support can just rebid 2S and later (if asked) deny red controls.

1. min opener with 3 hearts (also depends if you play serios/unserious or not)
2. It is different from 1 because 2 is still available, imo "standard" for 4 jump is 3 card support, good clubs and absolutely nothing on the side.
3. Subminimum opener with long hearts, but just a little too good to open 4.

"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

1 & 2 picture bids, min hands, hcp concentrated in the main suits, with little or nothing oustide. Examples:

AKxxx
KQxx
xx
xx

and

Kxx
xx
xxx
AKJTx

3. long hearts, minimumish hand i.e.

xx
AQJTxxx
Axx
x

Maybe not standard meanings, though.

53(32) min - we think any hand with 4 card support is good enough to bid 3.

3 card support (assuming you play Jacoby 2NT) , min or sub min GF (maybe 3226 10-11p)

Thank you all for your replies.

#1 happened a few weeks ago playing with a pick-up partner on BBO. Partner's hand was consistent with what you expected. I mistook it as more shape with minimal strength. We reached 5 -1 :(

#2 happened a long time ago -- club bridge with a pick-up strong partner. Partner was (approx) Kxx xx xx AKJT9x. I passed and made 13 tricks on favourable lie of cards but we were cold for 12. Partner said the sequence suggests minimum (as said in most replies) but with nearly solid s.

#3 happened a few days ago on BBO -- I held Tx AJT98xx QJ K3. I thought I bid OK -- please feel free to comment if you disagree.

I am not sure I wouldn't open 4, QJ doubleton and 7:2:2:2 are minuses imo.
Though, once you opened 1, 4 sees pretty automatic.
