All white mps. The auction starts with an artificial 1D (which can show up to 19 hcps)....

1D P 1S ?

You have AT6 AT985 A92 76

Do you overcall 2H or pass?

Why and how close is your decision?

2 for me. Perhaps not a pretty sight, but pass would make me sad.

I am honestly quite surprised that any top players are bidding here. Seems like I must be out of the loop.

Perhaps I am not busy enough here at MPS.

I'd like to know precisely what the 1 call shows, but I am generally bidding. I have a decent suit, decent strength. I am rmoving any two-level minor calls from Opener's options. Most play support doubles, so the chance of getting picked off is lower. If I get picked off and go for a number, such is life. I think I gain more often than lose, personally.

Agree with this. 2 is kind of ugly but I would do it even if slightly weaker. Defending 1NT or 2 doesn't look good and it isn't going to be any safer if I bid next time.

MPs is war - 2. It may go for -500, but that's no worse than the 0 that we get when pard fails to find the right lead..

Up to 19 hcp....starting from where? Dosent matter, 2passing is not even close. To be able to collect 500 they shld be able to dbl my contract for penalties. Wont be easy, and after that they shld get me 3 down that wont be easy either.

Oh so true. But war does not equal reckless. There is a parable about matchpoints involving two bulls I like to tell but its not printable in a family forum. The punch line is "let's walk down the hill and..."

Partner can easily have a heart lead from xxx or xx against 3N with his weak collection and declarer will have no clue about where the hearts are or who has them. I would like to get pard off a non-heart lead but that's not clearly essential now.

If LHO raises to 2S we have told our opponents how many trump they have assuming support doubles and high to compete. I'm now competing over 2S myself anyway.

If LHO rebids 1N tick tick I might be happy I passed or I might not be. Its hard to tell.

2H is OK and I don't hate it and what I might do on any given day might change. For instance on the day I originally posted it was "no other choice" and I have moderated to "maybe". :)

Developing a mixed strategy is really easy for someone marginally bipolar like me :P.
