Hi all

Here are the hands, courtesy of Whereagles. As usual, there's a standard system, and scoring is based on the matchpoints that were likely to result. If there is no auction present you are the dealer.

1

2

3

4

5

6

7

8

This last one is a lead problem.

PM me your answers. PM your complaints to whereagles :)

Regards

Mark

Mark - Do you want answers or comments too?

The position on the last one isn't right. Either we are North or we aren't on lead against 4.

Comments are welcome, but probably won't influence the scoring.

Good point on the last one. I just wrote them out as Whereagles sent them to me. Whereagles, can you advise?

I don't understand the point of having #6 and #7. Whether to open these hands or not are clearly a partnership style thing. Sometimes, an opening will work and sometimes pass would be better. Why should what happened in only one deal have any effect on the score?

First of all thanks to Mark for taking the time to put up this poll.

Second, on the final board your RHO opened 4 and all passed. Since we'll be South on all hands, perhaps opener can be moved to East.

Third, it is perhaps better for Mark if you send him the bids only. Open a separate thread if you want to discuss this or that hand in particular, as we did with previous polls. As usual, discussion is most welcome, so you're encouraged to do that.

Fourth, in #3 you're playing BBO standard with whatever gadgets the system allows. I think that means no negative free bids, Gonzalo :P

Finally, I'll put up a message in the main forum advertising this poll.

Anyway who votes with abstain (or anything less polite) will automatically get zero plus a procedural penalty of 10% of their score for not making a legal bid...

If you want to say that you would do something different, comment on the hand thread when they are posted.

Mark, thanks for assembling the answers. It is a thankless job.

I didn't abstain on any answers, but I was tempted to on one :P

Curious to see how I stack up. Perhaps more curious to see how the scores are assigned and who is doing the scoring.

When does the poll end?

Perhaps I've missed something, but I don't think there's any indication of the vulnerability on 7.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

gnasher: #7 is none vulnerable and the question is whether you open the hand or not.

Phil: I did the scoring and sent Mark the MPs he should award to each choice. As I said, it is based on what I think is likely to have happened at table, had you made that choice. As it is, it is based purely on my judgement, but I accept if someone else wants to join me (non voter) to discuss matters together. Ben? :)

By the way, Mark: if someone makes a bid not in the scorecard I gave you, PM me and I'll try and give you a score.

As to closing date, let's run it until the end of the month.

I abstained twice. I realize that I won't win many MPs for abstaining but from a discussion viewpoint it seemed like the right thing to do.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Whereageles, do you want to wait to compile answers or immediately start a discussion thread for each hand?

I assume neither will begin until 2/1/11, but its your party :)

likewise and I didn't even realize there would be a penalty but even if I had I would have abstained. Sometimes I really don't like the previous call :)
