I pass although I would have liked to have a spade honour. I hope he has 5 or a strong 4-carder. 4 should clearly be natural.

This seems like a no-brainer.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Really? So what would you bid with AKQ/QJ/xxxx/QJxx? This seem to me to be almost the only hand Opener can hold aside from adding the SJ for a small diamond. My first thought was 6C and it only gets better as I think about it - I would treat 4S as a hand with no diamond wastage and needing a heart control to make slam reasonable.

With that hand opener can bid 4C and then 4S.

Besides, you think that you are missing both red suit aces and you want to bid 6C?
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

You are right han - I need to think about it some more. :) Even so, I do not see why 4S should be natural rather than a cue. Perhaps my thinking is clouded by my own preferred 1NT structures that bids hands like these in a different way. :(

It should be natural because you can do both: bid 4S if you want to suggest it as a contract, and bid 4C if you just want to cue.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

partner had a monster

AKQ10x
Axx
9x
Qxx

LHO decided not to lead the obvious diamond, RHO would had done it for sure and since we were the only pair to play 4 from south we scored 94% anyway, but on a moe serious event missing this cold slam should be punnished more severelly.

It's MPs, so I'm surprised this is even a problem :P

Pard had 4 available if he wanted to do some more talking. Sure he might have the perfect hand, say

AKQxx
Axx
xxx
Qx

but on average our 7 losers are too much for slam.

EDIT: I put up the hand above before peeking at the 'solution' LOOOOL. I don't think you'd be "punished severely" for not bidding a slam most didn't find anyway eheh.

He will get no badge of courage for that 4 bid. He is facing a partner who showed GF with clubs + short diamonds and who made an effort to do so instead of just blasting 3NT. That shouldn't be based on random soft rubbish, and there is a slam opposite AKxxxx.

There is no way in this world (or in anyone else) that responder should try for slam over 4.

So the blame goes to ... opener! :D

Again agree with MFA.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.
