you open 1S in first seat. LHO waits and bids 2H, and partner bids 3S, then pass

Do you raise to 4?

I'll add that partner is an unknown quantity and you have no gauge for his style.

you may even miss slam.

Yes please bid 4.

The alternative to 4 is not pass but a qbid(4) if you think partner might have a limit raise

4 and going down when dummy and RHO both have 2 small hearts, RHO has the J and dummy doesn't have the A.

I bid 4S immediately, my partner tabled

At the time I thought it was automatic, but with my 3 small hearts should I be concerned?

I think if my hand was

AKQ9xx
x
Kxx
AJx

Then I would be more comfortable with it.

Thoughts?

yep. The actual 3S call is out of the realm of the possible --I hate questions where the conditions are not consistent with the hands.

I agree with this, I couldn't believe 3S could be 4333, but does my partner have to be short in hearts for his bid?

partner should have a hand that resembles a 3 bid for a 3 bid imo.

and if he does, game is prob pretty good!

Not necessarily short in hearts, but not a 12 loser!!!! hand either.

There must be some sort of an adjustment for two Jacks! So it's more like 11.85 I would think :)
