I passed, LHO passed, and pard ....

well, had I bid 2S or 3S we could have made 6.
Instead [pick up] pard bid 5, down a few, "Last Hand for me" as my dummy went down.

I was worried about the hearts, could easily be 2 losers, and even if pard over ruffs LHO (assuming hearts are 2-2) I could then afford just 1 more loser.

But I'm begiining to think 2S would have bene the correct bid.
If pard has Ax in spades, 2 hearts, and Axx in Clubs, we can make 4S, assuming LHO has both black kings.

New question -
Bididng goes 2 - (2) - pass -

what do you expect your pard to have for the 2 bid?
5 spades?
5 good spades?
6 spades?
A full opening bid?
Or 5 good spades with at least 1 quality points / nothing wasted in hearts / decent shape?

Is it better to pass, or better to bid 2S, risking pard gets too high?

Despite the fact that I had choosen the successfull call this time, there is surely no one and only right call.

Anybody who thinks that passing this hand is bad has no understanding of bidding- or a very different view of this matter. Actually the other view: Bidding 2 Spades is nuts- has more for it to go, after all, you will be in difficulties with some possible bidding scenarios. Some thought that it is worth the risk, some don't.

If you decide to bid 2 spade and you fail for -800 there or after partners raise, you need an excusion for your silly bid and your partner had left you too.
Kind Regards

Roland

You are probably blaming yourself too quickly, it is very possible that both pass and 2 should end up playing in spades. Partner is probably more at blame that you.

I wonder how many people will say "don't preempt over a preempt" in this thread.

3S over 2H would be a preempt over a preempt.

But 2S over 2H is just an overcall.

thank you for your kind reply and clarification.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Well, I need to clarify myself.
A 3S-jump is OK to make, but not with this hand.
It should be a strong hand w/Spades since one does not preempt over a preempt .
