As much as I love to bid 2 ♣ over 1 ♦, I would never dream of bidding 2 ♦ over 1 ♥ with the same kind of hand. This bidding is so different that it will show a different hand. So I would pass or double. With this shape I strongly prefer the first choice.

Pass- with those latter auctions- partner can come in with a very good suit without a double he doesn't necessary need an opening hand. He should assume you have something like you do. 1♥,-,1Nt,-, 2♥,-,- is one of the most feeble bidding sequences, partner can easily balance with good suit.

Pass. You are making bridge too difficult if you make overcall or double on hands like this.

I would be more worried about these auctions if I had doubled, as partner may overcompete. If we had 4342 I would understand the urge to double. As it is, there is a very good chance that we should not compete if partner can't act by himself, and I don't want to make him play a 4-3 fit with this ugly dummy.

Pass. The diamond suit isn't good enough for a 2-level overcall. The high card points are minimal for a double (just 11 points in the other suits) and the shape is bad: only 3 cards in the other major, only 2 clubs.

Kimelman cautions against 2♦, strongly preferring pass.

I strongly suspect I've bid 2♦ on this hand before, and I also strongly suspect that many B/Is would bid 2♦ without a lot of thought.

Double is better than 2♦, seriously.

But lest anyone not realize I know this, pass is much better than either!
