Hmm, I don't understand why 4 is so much better than 4. It seems to me that the latter contract is more likely to make. In fact you even scored 5 as much better than 5... is there some reason diamonds is more likely to make five while clubs is more likely to make four?

It also seems that 3X will usually be down one (you get two clubs, two spades, and a diamond) which is only +100. Sure there is a chance at +300, but there is also a chance at -530. On the other hand, 4 will almost always make. So it seems like 4 is probably a better spot than 3X on average?

My scores would've been more like:

4 = 10
4 = 9
defend 3X = 7
5 = 5
4, 5 = 4
3, defend 3 = 3

Note that this actually makes my own score worse...

My partner and I bid 4S on this one. Han was kibitzing at the time and we talked about this hand at length afterward. What happened????

Yes, MBodell and I played 3X here. Maybe we got peachy's 4?

Also, we discussed it afterwards and I can't see how 3X scores a ten? It will roll home at least some of the time, and even nipping it a trick is only +100 when we have quite a good shot at +130 in either minor. So I guess, like awm, I am volunteering for a demotion.

Edit: wrote some rubbish after this, but then realized it was rubbish

lol, 3 might outscore 4, 4, 3X, 5 and 4, but it gets the fewest points of all :S

When I sorted the results originally, somehow the player and the contracts got seperated from each other. I did have the right contracts for everyone recorded, the problem was when I copied and sorted. It should be right now.

I bid 1S then passed 3H. I think this is right when partner has a doubleton heart, and wrong when he has a stiff, and he's much more likely to have a doubleton (and might reopen with a stiff and non min).

2 - pass - 2 - 2
3 - 3 - pass ???

I did screw this one up despite good 3 bid from my partner the weak-tight of me took the command and I passed ;)

I am not sure if dbl or 4 is better now.
Thoughts ?

double for sure, you already showed a min so it basically shows your exact hand (3136 and good defense and a min).

I meant what is better instead of pass after 3 from the 2 bidder.
My partner passed in re-open seat and I think he was right but not sure after your comment.

Why would the responder do anything other than pass? He has a purely defensive hand with no prospects of game and no reason to want to bid on with 2 small hearts (2 heart losers), and a massive 2 card fit for clubs. I would be happy to defend, but not so happy that I would have much reason to think I was beating them.

Opener is the one with a stiff heart, and great defense and also good offense in context of having a minimum precision 2C opener.

My thinking was:

My partner could have passed with minimum but he bid 3
At the time I was thinking that I could have much weaker hand but that is probably wrong. (just those habits, opposite "polish precision" with 5+clubs people bid 2 with every kind of crap to scramble to better contract).

Looking at it now it in fact looks like opener should've reopened.
