I'm just checking a position encountered in National Pairs Championship, that involved afterwards director's decision (i'm not going to detaliate now). What's your bid as South?

I would double and hope partner takes this as a raise. I think it is the most useful interpretation.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Me too.. and I would add that this should show either this hand (minimum) or a complex, powerful hand with genuine support (will take a voluntary strength showing call later if need be). if I held a 3♥ raise, i should make the raise, rather than let them make me do something I had no reason to do.

Simple often works in these situations.... btw, who plays 2♥ michaels here? Not many, I bet.

Since I have no specific agreement I'd assume support double is on here.

This doesn't mean that double is not the best option, but it doesn't describe a minimum 4 card support at least for me.

Double for me too. Even if it is interpreted as "Support" then I'm still OK with it, since I have a bad minimum anyway.

One thing I wouldn't do is bid 3♥. My hand was not great to begin with, now, my secondary honor (the ♠Q) isn't setting up, nor is my potential length winner (the 4th spade). This isn't going to be a challenging lead problem for LHO, he'll trumps against our heart contract, since he's not looking at the top ones.

I would assume, without discussion, at least in North America, that double shows a desire to penalize the opponents. I think this is theoretically analogous to another thread where it went 1♥-(P)-1NT-2♥; ?. Double there was penalty without agreement to the contrary, but I think it makes more sense in both threads to have double mean "I want to compete in one of our suits."

Showing a heart raise seems clearly most useful here. But I fear partner and me both independently having to agree what is most useful on each auction without seeing the hand of the other or having discussed it.

I suppose you asked and were told that 2H was Michaels. It would not be Michaels for me or for any of my partners.

Dbl now, hoping support double is on here. Slightly hazy but I am not going to climb on the 3-level with this hand.

In Romania at most 5% of partnerships have discussed this as natural and I have seen several pairs trying it undiscussed as some sort of two suited bid arguing post mortem 'how could it possibly be natural?!' but maybe Edi has experienced otherwise.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Why should we care whether if 2H was natural or michaels? If the opponent's want to play michaels then let them I say :(
