2♦ (4441 or 5440, 11-15 HCP) - 2NT (Forcing ask)
3♥ (Spade short) - 3♠ (Range ask)
4♣ (14-15) - ?


4NT is to play.
Any level of any suit besides shortness sets the contract.

I will guess 6♣. My mental hand generator has it coming out pretty close, but slightly in the 12 tricks favor. I have bid a slam off two cashing aces before.

Seems unlikely that we are off 2 aces as this means we have everything else and when we are off 2 there is a chance they can't/aren't able to cash both immediately. Plus if off the A♠ even if an opp holds both aces he may be scared to double afraid of getting the void.
All IMO. Junior wanting to soak up all the knowledge he can.

When partner has no values in spade, we have 14 (15)+11= 25 (26)HCP out of the 30 in his three suits. This is enough opposite a void, but not opposite a singelton.

So I try 4 NT, my partners never have voids when I need them.

On the actual hand I bid 6♣. Partner jacked it to 7 with a 5440 hand and racked 13 tricks.

Just sort of a funny hand. I'll admit I'm still not a huge fan of it, but I can't really claim to hate it. The hand is tricky to bid using standard methods since opener and responder are both about an ace above a minimum opening, and neither hand - by itself - it that great for slam.

Heh. I think I thought for about 10 seconds, which is perhaps a bit longer than usual for me on average but tempo tends to be (sometimes purposefully) a bit random on high level auctions anyway. Partner's logic was that I bid 6!C being about 95% certain I was off a spade trick, and well, we aren't.

How would tanking even suggest to partner that he should bid 7? Tank 6C is generally just trying to decide whether or not to bid 6. 6C would also almost always be preceded by a tank anyways.

If anything I would think a quick 6♣ would tend to encourage a raise.
