Scoring: MP

Bidding:
1 (P) 1 (X)
P (1NT) P (2)
all pass

This board did not score particularly well for us, and we were the only board (of 13) to defend 2 diamonds.

Were we overly wimpy, or unlucky, or something else?
Still decidedly intermediate - don't take my guesses as authoritative.

Playing that the redouble shows exactly 3 hearts would have helped on this hand. North should have doubled 2D (takeout). Then south has an easy 2H bid.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I would have bid 2 with South's hand after the 2 bid. Since I didn't raise over the double, partner won't take me for 4 hearts. Even if it's a 4-3 fit, it should play fine.

I don't like South's bidding: it feels to me like he decided had opening count, then changed his mind. ATx is too good support to hide like this. Having said that, North has a pretty good hand, too good to let this one go (especially with that great club support). So I would X with North.

Short version: Both hands have support for partner's suit, and neither one showed it!
