Scoring: MP

This is one to make Jilly feel better.

Having no agreements in place about 2 suited high level overcalls the bidding went:

Pass 3 3 5
5 all pass

Personally I would have opened the North hand. Sitting South I have to admit I didn't envision such a well fitting max passed hand and let the slam go.

Very tough, as so often when the opponents preempts. I think south should bid on though, he has a great hand and what is partner bidding 5H on? Not on his club cards!
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Disagree, I would bid 6 all day with South's hand and don't think it is close. But then again I think 3 was a serious underbid too.

Hi,

#1 I would have passed as North, but a matter os style
#2 3H is heavy, very heavy, even for me, which says
something, if you cant show the 2-suiter, bid game
#3 Pass by South after 5H is clear as well, who tells you, that
you dont have 2 spade loosers before seeing partners hand?

With kind regards
Marlowe

I do believe you should risk 4H the first time. I also would have bid one more for the road, after all they might even save in 7C.

How is it that nobody bid S?

To me #1 and #3 is contradictory. If you would have passed 5 as north (you can't think it's forcing, can you?), how could south NOT raise 5 with his hand? With your #1 in mind, it's almost obvious to bid the grand....

uhh, I hate to speak for someone else, but I took #1 pass comment not as pass over 5C, but as pass in 1st seat. No sane person would pass 5C with 5-card support and a near opener.

Not playing a 2-suited bid, I think South has a clear 4H overcall, which would entice North to bid 6H. Over 5H, South should wake up to the original underbid and bid 6H. As a matter of fact, I would think about grand and bid 6C over 5H. The xx is of little concern because maybe North has a spade control or maybe they won't lead it. What? You've never gone down in a slam?

Yes, i was commenting on the issue "to open \ not to open"
with the North hand (which is a style issue), but since its nice,
that at least SoTired believes I am "sane", no need to appologies,
it made my day .-).
