I thought p could not have this hand but I buy Josh's argument. I still don't like 3 though, there is no guarantee that p has four spades.

I think he should have bid 3 over 3, and I don't understand why he didn't.

I would have bid 3 at the end but I understand why he doubled.

IMO overcalling 1 is terrible. Passing is the only easy way of getting both suits in since you can next bid them in order, and this will probably play terribly in a 4-3 fit since you have to set up clubs to make tricks but you will be ruffing red suits in your hand the whole time.

Agree with this

Hi all.

I was the Romanian partner

The main reason I doubled instead of bidding 3 was that partner might easily have something like xx KQxx Kxxxx xx, for instance, which could easily resolve in a +500 or +800. This was a Junior competition, after all.

Very good point about 2 on the second round, me and gwnn are playing that now.

I would just bid 3 D

pt can still have 3D
if he hasn't he can still bid 3S

like the 2S reasoning ; a gadget that makes sense and doesn't cost ; will buy that one

and when you get your partner barred from the auction, ?

Easy pass for me. For the 3C partner should at least show a non-minimum hand and for the 2nd X he should have at least defensive tricks. He cannot be 4??6 or ??46 because he would have overcall 1D or 1S on round 1 or 2S/2nt on round 2.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

I'm in the 4 camp here.

Agree that 3 on partner's actual hand is better than double, but I undestand why he doubled.

I've heard about 2 as Justin plays it, but don't think I've ever agreed to play it like that with any partner. Though I guess I would expect partner to have such a hand if this auction came up.
Kind regards,
Harald

Delayed canape makes sense, in some auctions.

I can imagine having a natural 2 call, myself, because my overcalls tend to be sound, in some auctions. I also would have vew instances of this because i can overcall 2 naturally. That said, I like this.

I also like this after a 1 opening.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I think that would have been the consensus interpretation in a 1980's MBC.
