4D will probably cause the most
problems.

Over 5D they just need to double,
most of the time there is no decision.

As for me:

5♦ = 20% of the time
4♦ = 50% of the time
3N = 8% of the time
2N = 17% of the time
2♠ = 5% of the time

Soemtimes they can't double, sometimes we make when they double, sometimes 5D doubled going off is a good score. Good enough for me.

Yes, Richard is in the statistics business now. Good choice :D

But if the number of times this sequence has come up happens to be a multiple of 100, your frequencies could be exact.

I would bid a simple 3♦. If p bids 3M, I'll go to 5♦ or 4♥. Bidding 4♦ doesn't make sense to me, 5♦ is the best alternative imo.

I'll go with the middle of the road 4♦. It might be enough to buy the hand or it might push opps too high or in the wrong strain. I'll bid once more over 4♠ but defend 4♥.

Sry, I did not mean to claim that 5D always leads to
a good / bad score for the opponents.
What I was trying to say is, that 5D is a guess, and it
is usually better that the last guess is made by the
opponents.
5D is an all or nothing bid, it is either great or bad, there
is nothing in between.

Besides the points are evenly devided, i.e. it is not even
clear who owns the board.
"Plunge 'em into darkness" is certainly worth trying to do,
but I wont hand them a cheap 300-500, when it is unclear
they can make anything.

Hi Gerben,

4D will lead to 4S+1, 5D will lead to 5S=.
In other words it does not matter, your best
bet is 4D followed by 5D.
