Cavendish, none:

(2H)-3C-(3H)-??

I just learned from the commentators that this is a very tough call. However, I predict a unanimous BBF panel. (cherdano doesn't count because we have a bet on this)
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Double. Take the sure plus.

3NT is too risky.

Sure plus??? Looking at that hand I'm not too sure 3H doesnt make-double seems just as risky if not more than 3NT to me. Unless you're saying double is a responsive double and asking p to bid again which would be OK IMO.

I dont fancy the 3NT chances, the opps are almost certain to have AKJ in hearts and are odds-on to have an outside entry (diamonds and clubs probably wont run), while 4D is practically game forcing, 3S will be taken as a natural 5+ suit by p. So 4C or 5C for me depending on how good p's 3 lvl overcalls are. Clubs should be fine as P should have a good club suit for a 3 level overcall in direct seat.

I know the hand so that means I cannot vote for what I would bid at the table if I didn't know the hand... Pass and my head hurts *g

Let's look at the options. The problem with 3NT is that if it goes small to King, through, you are down.

The problem with Pass is that you might miss 3NT.

The problem with Dbl is... You have no idea if you can make anything.

Hi,

Cavendish, is IMP's or MP?

I watched some viewgraph, but not much.
4C, I have support, they have a 6-3 fit in
hearts.
3NT is only for the brave.

Last chance to bid 3N, I have gone down before. The problem with dble, which must be responsive, is you may never get to bid 3N when it is right unless partner happens to bid 3S and then you will not know whats right anyway. Partner does not expect you to be right 100% of the time, they simply expect you to make sensible decisions based on what you expect to work. The enemy have put the boots to me, I can congratulate if they get a plus for taking the position of bidding 3N.

I wonder if auto-doubling this kind of 3NT pays in the long run, they often go many off, they also make several overtricks once in a while

Didn't I just write that if they lead a small from HJTxxx that you are two down before you started? 3NT is out.

Dbl is that penalty? Explain why. What do you bid with and ? (oh I forgot - 3NT...)

Dbl. Not sure what double means but probably something like this. Maybe I'd rather have more club support and a four-card spades. Or even a five-card spades. A typical example of a "the-hand-I-happen-to-have" double: this time, it's 75% penalty.
