Five hearts at these colors at imps has insurance value. If they make 5C, then we get a bad result and 5Hx is not down a ton under any case (1C, 2S, 1D or 2 at most). Against that, you do have some reasonable defensive value. Their is a reasonable chance their game may depend on where the spade ACE is, and may have no chance if partner holds the spade QUEEN or diamond KING. But at these colors (they are red), RHO bid 5C to make, and given how my partners preempt at these colors, I have some reason to believe he maybe right.

There are two things I wuold hate. I would hate to be down two doubled when they are down one in 5. I would also hate to bid 5H and here it go pass-pass-6C and that make when RHO is void in hearts (as on this auction he probably is). This 5H bid allows WEST to make a forcing pass to invite slam. And if he does that, he will be looking at losing hearts but he will ahve the spade ACE.

All in all, I guess I pass.

I dont think I want to bid on - I didn't at the table. "The 5 level is for the opponents" and I wouldn't be very suprised if 5 is going down

Silly bid here: 5 :)

I'm playing pard for something like 4423 or 3523 and we might be able to take 10-11 tricks, depending on pard's high cards. In either case opps seem to go at best 1 down in 5, so...

nope the 5-level belongs to the opps.

maybe if partner doubles, I'd bid 5. Depends what the double means.

Pass is just begging to lose a game swing. Partner usually has a singleton for this bid, and on this hand that is probably in diamonds. You need almost nothing to make 5.

I bid 5H at IMPs, I would pass at MPs.

Not so easy hand to say 5 and nothing more make sense or say i pass and bid 5 if partner double (crazy imo, because this is slam invite if your pass is forcing).

First we have to know strenght of p with 4 bid. This promise some hcp? max 7? max 10? how you play?

Other question, you have bid of 5 for partner to think about his lead, not out of question at start, maybe if suit better wold be better bid.

All in all partner bid 4 expecting a possible 5-3-3-2 and 12hcp, i have 5-5 good hand with 14hcp....so i can think in make one trick more...

i would bid probabily 5

Pass I guess, too much defensive values for a sacrifice.

I'll take the insurance with 5. Give me the AQ, and I'll want to sneak the lead in.

Very possible that both 5 and 5 are -1, but whatever.

I'll pass. Most of the time, no-one can make anything on the 5-level here. Taking out insurance is not cheap at all if it is -300 instead of +100, which I estimate is the most likely outcome.

5.
My guess is that both sides go one down at the 5-level. But I'll take insurance. It's not hard to construct possible layouts where both sides can make at the 5-level. I'm quite sure 5 is the winning bid in the long run.
Kind regards,
Harald

Scoring: IMP

1-(2)-4-(5);
5-AP

10 tricks in clubs, 9 in hearts. I presume West was trying to make a FP.
