People are bidding 2H with an 8-card suit, the world is going to end.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Scoring: IMP

How brave are you feeling?

I opened 3, second choice was 4. IMO 2 is off the wall and pass isn't much better (I'm still opening 3 at red).

I've already posted the problem that this gave the opponents here.

At our table the 2 bidder passed his partner's double of my 5 and we went two down.

Our team mate, who passed originally, felt that he could not pass his partner's double of the opening 5 bid and went down in 5. I thought he got what he deserved for not opening.

Of course you should pass.

However, i am not sure whether i will bid 3H with this hand on table. If opps are weak, maybe i will.

No-one at this particular event thinks they are weak. They may think that they are weaker than the opposition, but they still fancy their chances even if they are playing a Bermuda Bowl/Venice Cup-bound team.

I'd not consider passing with a weak hand with an 8-bagger in 1st seat.
2 is sick, it's between 3 and 4. I guess I'd land on 3 at the table. 4 is far from sick.
Kind regards,
Harald
