Scoring: IMP

3 passes to you
1, 2 by partner

Your opening style is modern aggressive (but not insane). Partner's 2 is constructive, showing a maximum pass. The world-class opponents are pretty aggressive, I believe.

Can easily have slam given the 5-5 heart fit. Just give partner a stiff spade, ace of hearts, and either of diamond ace / club king. Or Kx AQxxx xxx xxx I'll be more than happy to take my chances. Or x QTxxx Axxx Kxx, there are plenty of hands. So 4 for me, partner should be aware that the hands I am describing are gold.

I'd just bid 4N, I don't really want to tell them that they should lead a club. BTW, it's good to discuss this 2H bid with partner, I do not believe a random balanced 10 or 11 with 5 hearts should be possible.

Well, I'm not so optimistic about slam without knowing where pard's high cards are. Still, the 4 zzzzplinter should help here, though pard will have to have a lot of stomach to go beyond 4 with his mundane 10 count... :)

He knows that you know he is a passed hand and you are looking for slam anyway. It shouldn't take that much stomach :)

Justin's post makes me happy, not so much for the specific bid he made, but that it just goes to show you how likely he thinks slam is, since so many players bid an unimaginative 4 in positions like this.

After 4D and partner's 4H, can I trust his no-slam signoff?
Or do I Bw anyway, so I should save a blab bid and Bw now?
SQx+ HAxxxx+ CK is worth bidding 6H or Sx HAxxxx Dxxxx CKxx;
how much less or in D will partner not see 6H and signoff at 4H??

4, splinter. Yes I know. I bid it anyway!

All I want to find out is if partner has a decent hand or not.

I vote for either 4 or 4NT. This isn't the time to psych a splinter.

4. I'll trade concealment for the chance to let pard understand the importance of a high spade card and the A.

The 5 level could easily be too high opposite a very boring: xx, AQxxx, Qxx, Qxx and I want to let pard out.

4H

Good news that partner has five hearts. I confidently bid game. If the guys who bid slam beat me, they might deserve it.

It would be nice if we could agree on what 2H shows.

With good reason, your partner will likely make it.

Obviously depends on your methods. If all the weaker game interest hands are fit jumps (say), and 2 over 1 is unexpectedly good for the auction, then I can understand mild slam interest. If partner is just taking advantage of being a passed hand to get his 5 hearts and spade tolerance into the auction, then it's just a game bid.

I will disagree with your last statement. Surely 2H should show approximately 10-12 hcp.

Partner can easily be Kx Axxxx xxx Kxx where all of his cards are working, which would allow him to cooperate in a slam try. Note this hand is actually better for slam than is Kxx AQxxx xxx Kx (a better hand in terms of hcp, but has 3 spades....leaving you having to find the spade Q).

When he is xx Axxxx KQxx Qx he can simply sign off in 4H.
Is the word "pass" not in your vocabulary?
So many experts, not enough X cards.

I guess different style. I don't have to sign off with that hand. I opened.

With:

Jx, Axxxxx,KJx,xx

I will bid 2H as a passed hand. Don't want to scandalise anyone by taking away the jack of diamonds
