Scoring: IMP

(P) - P - (1)* - 2
(X) - 2 - (X) - ?

*Precision 1, 11-15 hcp, 3+ diamonds, may have longer clubs.

In third seat, RHO opens 1 and you have agreed with your partner that 2 is natural. LHO doubles and partner bids 2. RHO doubles.

What do you bid now?

(I'd prefer it if only BILers responded. Thank you.)

I'm happy to be banned from replying to this thread:

I'd need to be on serious drugs to contemplate a 2 overcall. Lacking such "inspiration" I doubt that I'd come up with the correct answer...

Pass? Can I bid again without lying or doing damage?

Someone once made an overcall on a hand like that in a league match against myself and David Collier (david_c).

It went for -1700 and found its way onto the poor bridge section of the Durham University website, found here

Ok. Abstracting from your bad overcall, which i'm forcing you to make, what is your call now?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

For what it is worth, I think that this is a very valuable lesson hand. Of course the 2D bid is bad, but just change the hand a bit to make the 2D somewhat reasonable, and see what you would bid now.

I think most advanced plus can immediately see what the right call is and explain in a few words why that call is the only right call. However, I would be pleasantly surprised if a BILlie can give a good argument for why [the right call] is correct.

This is a fairly common situation, I think that it would be worthwhile to think about this some more and perhaps try to post your thoughts.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I think I'd pass - I'm guessing my partner has a hand on the cusp between a 1 and a weak 2 opening and elected to pass it. If we're going to play in a game contract, this is likely to be the cheapest going. Any bid I make is likely to be digging the hole we're in deeper.

well I think pass is still right

I called 2 D NOT clubs as natural so may be pard has a few helpful D's and a 5 card spade suit, easier to bid than a 5 card heart suit, so even passed I would expect reasonable spades 5/2 fit not so bad we are only after partscore anyway so why go tothe 3 level and get ur self in more trouble.

If opps go to clubs or hearts at least with Kxx in both I can start shortening trumps for them and maybe 2 spades and a ruff and a K winner thats 4 tricks only need 1 more to set them at the 3 level

and whats the worse that can happen -3 double not vuln (I have been in worse spots hahaha)

also pard still has a bid to make

Pass

We don't have enough to make game even remotely possible (unless we make 2 Sp X)
I think the opps have an 8 card heart fit and will bid it.
Partner probably has 6 spades so "The Law" is on our side.
We are vul.

My kings are well placed defensively so I hope we can get 3 or 4 hearts down.

BUT since I live in ACOL land I have little or no idea how to deal with precision so I am probably completely wrong on all possible counts!
