Someone reminded me of this hand that I had about 2 years ago in the national swiss. How would you play it?
red at imps you pick up AJ98x Q9xxx x xx. Pard opens 1D (precision style) you bid 1S, he bids 2S, and you bid 4S (yes yes I know... but live with it).
After long thought LHO leads a heart. Dummy is Kxx KJTx Axxx xx. You play the jack and RHO immediately plays low. From the table action it's clear lho has underled Axx, perhaps Ax. How do you play?

Sounds like lefty has a lead problem.
Obviously we have 3 losers and if we don't find the ♠Q we are down.
Sinc you posted it here, there is no simple ♠ finesse
Just because of that I play ♠Ace followed, if nothing big has appeared, with the ♠J to pin the 10.

Would put the J♠ on the table in a nanosecond at T2 and backward hook it.
I'd really have to trust my table feel to pick up QT dub offside.

It appears that LHO had minor suit holdings that were very unnattractive from which to lead....KJxx, KJxx....so he was looking for a passive lead. But with Qx, or Qxx he can't lead a passive trump so that leaves hearts - with shortish hearts the underlead isn't as risky, so I'd think his hand was:

Which would also explain why the opponents couldn't enter the bidding. So I'm taking the backward finesse and if LHO covers I'll finesse the 9 on the way back.

My opponents basically never cover with the Queen here unless they have the 10 too, so I'll play for Q10 tight if he does cover.

OK, I believe LHO has the ♠Q, but how many spades does he have? I think it is less likely for him to hold 3 spades, because that would leave 10 cards in the minors for RHO. So I play spades from the top, winning if LHO has ♠Q singleton/doubleton.

This is a nice play because LHO will tell you that you are in dummy if he has ♠Q, while hopefully it will be partner who will say so if he comes to a doubt

It's quite funny. Saturday I had a very similar problem. Against my 3♥, LHO started underleading an ace (100% sure, since dummy had a singleton).
The problem were again trumps: ♥A987 in dummy, and Q6543 in hand.
Since LHO had a difficult lead, I wond in hand, and played the ♥Q to pin the J or T in RHO hand. Obviously, LHO had a singleton ♥K
