4, though it's also reasonable to bid only 3. This hand is on the dividing line, but I'll go high because of the vulnerability and because I think 3 might be more sound than what I encounter regularly.

Yep borderline 3/4, but the singleton tips the balance to 4

I don't need to post this, I'm just having a bitch.

I played, some would say badly, in one session of the local sectional this last weekend.
This hand had me stop recording the scores on my sheet. -10.19

It is surprising that there was no heart raise yet partner managed to keep it open. I think 4 is the best way to show this very strong hand on this auction, though partner really shouldn't play us for a hand we've denied.

Sorry if this is wildly different from what happened at the table. I think if there's a difference in how the hand was evaluated no number of bidding rounds is going to produce convergent choices.

"though partner really shouldn't play us for a hand we've denied". I didn't

Please, please partners, stop this "I'll show my hand next round" rubbish.

Too good for 3. That should be a 9 card fit with a few random points, to allow partner to bid 4 on a hand that is sensitive to a good fit. 4 for me, Partner should not expect the world as you haven't bid 4 to show a full opening with fit.

I agree with the 1 opener. 3, pass, double, and 3 are all equally bizarre.

It shows shortness in hearts and we have 4? We "know" partner has short hearts themselves and couldn't act, so I'll hope for a plus score by passing.

I only have 5 spades, I have a double heart stop, partner will likely pull to 4 with 4, spades might misbehave badly, give partner a good minor suit and I might make 3N with only 3 spade tricks since his points are going to be in the minors.

So it's 3N or pass, and passing seems to be very pessimistic.

To be honest, I didn't consider 3N or pass. DSIP X - am I masterminding?
