Le balance How much deviation from 1NT is GIB allowed?

GIB is pretty scrupulous about HCP range and shape for an opening 1NT, but what about balancing.
This came up in todays Survivor - Just Declare.

What is the worst lie?
  • Pass - too strong
  • X takeout - you have diamonds
  • X strong - too weak
  • 1♥ 5+ - you only have 4
  • 2N too weak

Doesn't leave you with much else so 1N

This hand puzzles me. A clear double planning to rebid NT at the cheapest level when partner bids ♠/♣. You can't just have 2 HCP too much AND 3 aces as well, that'll lead to missed games way too often.
