This occurred at a teaching table with GIB sitting east west and me sitting north south.

Hand

Gib cue-bid after pre-empting and its Gib partner passed.

Also I was looking at hands for the auction (3) 4 (4) more generally. I notice as well that when fourth hand bids the Gib preempter doubles very freely.

GIB East missorted its hand and thought it had the 18+ HCP that 4 supposedly showed. After realizing the misbid and hoping to avoid a doubled slam contract, East quite properly passed the cue bid to keep the bidding low and avoid the penalty double. IMHO, a good recovery by East. Well done.

Here is an example of Gib doubling

As JohnU points out, the GIBS are using different systems:
GIBEast thinks it's raising preemptively but
GIBWest thinks GibEast is showing 18+ HCP

Again GIBWest thinks that GIBEast has shown a mountain.
If the robots could share and understand the same FD description of their system, then this sort of discrepancy might be avoided.

So, where are we with all this? Evidently there is no fixing a problem once it is clear that there is one. Will the programmers need to start from scratch, is BBO looking for a new robot, or what? Has anyone heard anything?

Pretty embarrassing for BBO to have this happen at a teaching table, of all places.

I am suggesting a new rule where when GIB opens with a preempt, it can't bid again after partner does nothing but raise and/or double the opponents. Maybe there should be exceptions, but I think that would be fine.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Sounds like best solution. Keep your mouth shut after making a preempt unless you are asked (that includes doubling)

Sounds good. (though I have not encountered GIB bidding again after preempting.
