ok ok so they make 3NT with a finesse. Note 12-19 "points". (If you use "points". It will ALWAYS use the max of the range). I pondered upon passing 2Hx. Glad I did not.

I have to agree, virgos, East's bidding is total pants! ('Pants' is English slang for rubbish.)

Hmmm... Badger I did not run into this one in Indian English nor in American English. What is the etymology or entymology? I just forget which one is birds and which one is words LOL

Out of interest, what are you saying the bug is here? It may not be your choice of bid but GIB does, after all, have exactly what it promised in the description.

Probably that the bot showed its hand with 1D, 2H is a huge overbid especially given the diamonds are hardly stellar (and that's an understatement).

I read 12-19 points and 17- hcp. From the little I read "points" become relevant when a fit has been found. No fit has been found. It has 10 hcp which fit the 17- hcp criterion but where are the 12-19 "points"?

I should have mentioned to jdonn that perhaps the only improvement needed is GIB read its own blurbs but somewhere in the software blurbs and bidding are so tightly integrated they cannot be separated out easily. They perhaps are the same "thing".

GIB doesn't work like that. To GIB, this hand has 13 total points.

Quote

Gib uses both old fashioned HCP (A=4, K=3, Q=2, J=1)) and “Total points” (HCP+3 for void, 2 for singleton, 1 for doubleton, but short suits containing an honor are reduced by 1 point).

So yes, it should probably have the lower limit increased, but it was at least consistent with the description.

sm, could you address whether "points" become valid only when a fit has been found>

thanks
