I've been hearing about this story all evening and it amuses me because there's a certain amount of truth to it, but ...

http://www.golfdiges...llett-this-week

Extract:

Quote

Willett starts innocuously enough, saying that American fans are "brainless." But from there, he says they're "pudgy, basement-dwelling irritants, stuffed on cookie dough and pissy beer, pausing between mouthfuls of hotdog so they can scream 'Baba booey' until their jelly faces turn red."

It goes on from there, with ample veiled references to Donald Trump and American gluttony. Again, not entirely unimaginative, but also the type of incendiary remarks that will certainly circulate among the crowds at Hazeltine, and turn poor brother Danny into an unsuspecting target once play begins

I'm interested in how people the other side of the pond view the (imo) idiots that yell "Get in the hole" or something more banal every time somebody tees off.

Seeing as how this involves my home state of Minnesota I would like to say something but I am having trouble grasping what is happening. Somewhere around 1951-52 I was a score runner. [St. Paul Open at Keller golf course] I doubt this job exists anymore. Anyway, when the hole was completed and the scores were agreed to I would run the scores back to the central facility for posting.

Everyone was quiet. I was once seriously rebuked for taking a few steps (not talking just moving) before the shots were completed. I did not repeat my error. My impression from your post is that this has changed. Too bad.

I eat soup the correct way. I put my napkin on my lap when I eat. Things like that.

I know that I am the only one in any restaurant doing this.

Not sure what my point is.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

I think there's an element of truth to what Willett is saying.

....

....

....

Wait, he's talking about American fans and not the American TEAM?

:P

Why are we discussing Danny Willett's brother's comments?
He is not on the Europe golf team, he is a nobody trying to get his 15 minutes in the limelight.

Because he posted a LOT of witty stuff while Willett was winning the masters and acquired a VAST number of twitter followers. It has also garnered a fair amount of attention among the teams/officials and there is a worry about what it will do to the atmosphere during the event.

I'm guessing fans will wave hot dogs at Danny Willet.

Judging from their previous success rate, the US side can use all of the motivation it can get.

After reading half of this thread I think I can finally assert that this thread is about golf. Am I right?
