This happened to me this evening, and I have no idea what I was supposed to do:

Your methods are somewhat hazy, but you can assume that 4♣ is some sort of major suit ask and 4♦ a transfer.

Partner will rarely have enough to make slam on pure power, and with this aceless collection I don't see us making slam any other way. Meanwhile we should have enough strength that 3NT will be good even when we have a major suit fit - we're certainly not worried about clubs running if partner is at all sane. It seems all factors are in favor of pass.

I felt there was no issue with bidding, I could always sign off in 4N and we'd have the power to make it, but there was plenty of room for partner to have enough to make 6M (Ax, KQxx, KQxx, Axx is no great hand but plenty).

So I bid 4♣.

Partner bid 4♦ and I bid what I felt was a semi invitational 4N to cover him having a fair few extras (which would have made with an overtrick, and I expected partner to pass with the 3253 18 he had), he took it as Blackwood and the wheels fell off.

Despite having mixed in a second pack you've only got two aces between you (and I only count 11 tricks if you convert the K♦ to the ace), so I'd say you're a little short.

Sorry yes should be AQxx, but 6♥ is just cold opposite that, one spade on A♣ and one ruffed then my hand is high.

Yes this is not an auction you rush to bid on, but this is usually for fear of partner having a long solid suit and a club stop, but this is almost impossible here given what you hold. Thus I thought his hand was most probably balanced or semi balanced.

So I ask another question:

If partner has a balanced hand, what range would you put on it, how big is too big to just bid 3N ?

Enough stuff here to consider slam. I would begin with 4c and after 4d continue with 4h. P will surely realize we have only 5 (no transfer pls do not let me hear we would do this with 46 and no space to clarify) AND enough stuff to make 4n safe. Listen to what p does next and take it from there.
