Options are pass, double, 4N, 5C, 6C. I rule out 6C and 4N quite quickly; I'm settling for 5c though I'm tempted by both X and pass. Not 100% clear to me.

Well there was only one course of action (bidding or not) that I would consider, but I'm known as somewhat eccentric, partner chose the other action.

This is an obvious double, partner is trap passing, and on the unlikely event that he is not I hope he is good enough to bid 4NT with 5-4 minors, or 2-5 reds.

What do you expect partner to do over this double if 33(34) or (23)44 with 5/8/11 points ?

I really don't like opener's DBL at the 4 level when he already opened and holds minimum hand, and no take out shape either, even though I am aware it may be the winning action. Why do we want to bid ? Because we have extra strength or extra shape ? Answer is obvious, if I am going to bid I will tell pd why I am bidding and which values he has, if any, are good for me.

I would bid 5♣ every day of the week that ends in a "y."

Maybe. But, Someone is likely to do something. Partner goes back to Hearts or raises Clubs. RHO wheels the ax or pushes in Spades. Your guess as to the success for us when this occurs.

OK, so you bid 5♣, the 4♠ bidder bids 5♦, partner doubles, RHO bids 5♠ I presume you pass and partner is in the hot seat with:
xx, 109x, KQxx, K10xx
Any suggestions ? (also do you really remove a double of 4♠ with this, may not play great opposite partner's big balanced)

If your point is that partner may have some problems later in the auction, all I can say is that is certainly possible. But that is not the problem that was presented to us.
