Imps.

East could be 4-4 in the majors for this sequence.

East is a team sponsor, west is an aggressive pro.

What is your pick?

If you want to lead a club, presumably for a ruff, then surely the 2 is better than the 6 to show the diamond card. If you want to attack then A seems the most aggressive option. That this is posted makes the club lead more attractive. Based on that, my guess is that West is 4342 and East 4423. Declarer wins the club and leads a trump to our ace. Now we get a club ruff, A and a trump promotion. Is that more likely than finding a fast entry with partner? Probably not but it makes for a better story than a simple ruff or void.

With a trump control, I'd start A. Depending on partner's signal I would then either play for a diamond ruff myself or a club ruff with partner. Note, however, that in many cases a club ruff with partner won't add a trick for us.

club lead is hugely unlikely to generate any defensive trick(s).

Dia ace gives us a 2 way shot. p could have dia K (and signals for a continuation) and

we score a quick dia ruff for down at least 1 and even if p fails to appreciate a dia lead we

can continue to try and set up a ruff if we can figure out how to reach p hand when we win

the trump A. Foolproof? nah but dia A is not very likely to give the opps their 10th trick and

would appear to give us our best chance to set the opps.

Yeah the more I think about it, it's not even close. A by a mile. The disadvantage of open-leading A without K has been way overblown (in **most** cases) in both the literature and in conventional bridge defense wisdom. Especially with a trump control and when the A is not known to be in a strong suit of theirs.

A, angling for a ruff in either minor.
