S.....W......N......E
1N...P......2C......X
??

The descriptions of Pass and 2D by South appear to be identical: No 4 card major.
Is there a distinction between the two actions?

Further evidence available. Although there is nothing to distinguish Pass from 2D in the explanations provided by GIB, it does appear from the following hand that GIB expects stronger Diamonds for the 2D choice:

No,I don't think so.
Pass=denied a stopper in only.
2=no 4 card major with a stopper in at least.

Perhaps so, but be careful of passing. I opened 2NT and GIB's stayman response was doubled. I passed with 3343 shape and weakish diamonds, and GIB passed with 5413, 5 count, 3 small clubs. A silly contract with a S game making.
