IMPs knockout match

2 was alerted as possibly short, but game forcing.
North pass shows a balanced or semi-balanced hand (RDBL would have shown clubs)

what now?

redouble is tempting, but for LHO to do something unintelligent, since its the most clear business redouble I can think of. We seem like toasted, LHO got the reds, RHO the blacks and we don't even stop clubs.

I supose the most logical thing is to bid 2 now

2D.

I am getting old, I wont try to see, how good their nerves
are, by sending it back.
2D should also be only a 4 carder, since I would assume with
5+ and gameforcing values, you would have bid them the round
before.

With kind regards

I wouldn't have this problem: I would have responded 1N. To gf on this hand is an act of incredible optimism.

I think redouble is for blood. East may well be passing 2 out of desperation, with some 5=2=2=4 or 6421 with 4 clubs and 6 spades. After all, it isn't game. Reverse my minors and wouldn't we want redouble to be for blood?

The question, then, is whether we think we can make 8 tricks before they take 6 should we send it back.

I hate this hand: I am going to bid 2N with no confidence. My concern is that in clubs LHO may score some spade overruffs. Of course, 2 xx might turn out to be better than 3N but 3N probably won't be doubled.

Wow. I'm sending it back happily. My pard has at least 3 pieces in clubs, only 5 spades and/or extras for their pass especially when I could be short. We agree to bid directly as opener with minimums or short clubs.

Even if it goes down (which I doubt)I like to put them on their heels although I try to only spend 5 imps doing it and this would likely cost 7. Hopefully it's early in the match and I can go stealing later instead of running and setting them up to be pushy.

Just how do you know that? The auction makes 5=3=3=2 very likely, since RHO would usually bid a 3 card red suit if he held one. And you might even take the time to read the OP rather than to assume that your are playing with your regular methods

I'm in the redouble camp. I don't think partner will pass 2NT and 2 sounds tempting but shows fear and I don't want to serve it that easy to them.

I'd prefer 1N with this hand, too. Mainly because of the expected misfit.

True, it's a partnership agreement along similar lines to 1 - double - redouble - pass suggests we play it right here. And, redouble for the OP would show clubs BUT pard can't have enough of them to do that when mine could be short. I'm only expecting a tolerance which is indicated from the OP's stated methods and I just added my agreement as to what a direct bid would look like but the rest is the same.

Do you really think a passed hand doubling into a game forcing auction opposite a partner that passed over 1 is takeout? Perhaps you should read the OP more carefully.

Since my 2 bid was game forcing could be short lho has clubs and/or or a death wish and given my red suits rho has nowhere to go given that -180, -380 or even -580 beats the game we were on a force to bid..... and make as far as rho is concerned.
