Hi,

A friend and I are looking to play in Holland, ideally a tournament or two and playing in a city, likely Amsterdam but open to other towns/cities. We've never played there before and excited to play against Dutch pairs and maybe with some in a team. We'd plan on a (long) weekend or maybe a week.

This post was helpful for Amsterdam clubs

But this list of tournaments is proving tricky to decipher as neither of us speak Dutch or know the scene

Are there any strong/competitive regional tournaments coming up anyone knows about?

Cheers,

Kiat

You should stay away from Cafe-drives/Kroegentochten if you want competitive tournaments or if you care about UI laws and the likes. These drives are more about socialising (gezelligheid) than counting to thirteen. Eliminating those leaves you with the Zwolle pairs tournament in November. :) I don't know whether this list is incomplete or continually updated.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Thanks Csaba, that helps. Not sure if we can make that weekend though, but I think we'll be giving the cafe games a miss as we're looking for more competitive games. Incidentally, I realise now yhe quantity of regionals and (semi-)nationals is actually very good in the UK by comparison then, given there's about 10x per capita more bridge players in the Dutch bridge federation.
