New partner. All vul mps

1N P 2D P P ?

2D is diamonds and a major. You haven't discussed what a double from partner would mean.

Axx AKx xx KQxxx

Pass, dbl, 3C?

1N is 15-17 and 2 NF? What sort of system is that?

Presumably, Straube meant
1N (2) Pass (Pass);
??
IMO X = 10, Pass = 8, 3 = 6. If you decide to protect, you should lean over backwards to double, even off-shape, because partner has a good hand only if he trap-passed.

Yes, that's what I meant. Foobar (Atul) ran a simulation that suggested that our average fit in a major was something like 6.5 cards while our average club fit was maybe 8.3. Partner (not Atul) had xxx xxx Jxx AJxx and passed my reopening double which seems wrong to me (btw she's a strong player) so I'm not sure whether she took the double for more of the majors. I hate unilateral actions, but if Atul's simulation is correct, it might be better to just balance with 3C. I mean, if dbl denies 3C, partner can better judge what to do the rest of the time. I found it interesting that 3C would go down, but 2N our way and 3D there way were making.
