1NT=(14)15-17

IMPS. You are East.

1NT is strong.
The double of 1NT is penalties.
The double of 2 is "take-out", not necessarily classical take-out shape, but showing a hand prepared to defend if his partner has a penalty double of hearts.

What is your call now?

Is this a UI question? Do you want discussion or an untainted poll?

Did I have a weak removal of 1N to diamonds available ?

How likely is partner to be offshape/open 1N with 5 hearts ?

we cannot read openers mind but it is clearly impossible for the 2d
bid to suddenly become a transfer that responder failed to make the
first round. 2d was a choice to play period might even be 6 cards.

While I see no reason for the 2h bid let us assume that opener read a
book recently that stated it was a good idea to open 1n with a hand like
Kxx AKQTx xx Axx so they chose to open 1n and now are telling us that
their dia support is umm suspect but they have decent hearts so please
responder try to not be void and have 6 diamonds like you might.

PASS

things can only get worse and if p mistook your 2d as a transfer
you are doomed no matter what happens just pass and maybe u will
get lucky.

Why did I run in the first place? Now, pass.

I assumed you read that into the question and your vote was in jest.

Depends, if you never open 1N with 5M, isn't 2 "I have 4 and 4, want to raise to 3 and I want you to lead a heart if we defend". If you do ever open 1N with 5M you're screwed.

partner would wait to redouble with 4414, so he must have 5 hearts and I pass.

On the first round, 2 would have been Stayman and 2 would have been a transfer to hearts. It was possible to remove to diamonds but only at the 3-level. Most people these days play that a 1NT opening could be 5M332; 5M422 is conceivable but less likely.

Sometimes when I post bidding problems there was UI at the table; sometimes there was not.

However, if I post a bidding problem in this forum it is not a "UI question", it is an "AI question". In UI cases, one thing the TD needs to assess is the logical alternatives based solely on the authorised information.

Whilst I agree that sometimes comments will taint a poll, it is also interesting to see what comments people have to make and what questions they have to ask. In UI cases, we'd also be interested if people thought that alternative actions were plausible, as these actions might be classified as having been "seriously considered".

Partner is doing some crazy stuff. He passes 1NTx (suggesting no decent 5 card suit imo) and he immediately pulls 2. Even with a 4414 he should pass first, see where the auction takes us (no Dbl yet, and NV) and RDbl later if necessary. Your guess is as good as mine, but I'll pass.

Since pass is blinding obvious, I would not be surprised.

If I were at the table for this auction the first question I would ask myself is "Have I ever played a conventional runout system with this partner? Have we ever played DONT escapes?"

Pass. I'm not sure what partner is doing bidding 2 now rather than directly over the DBL.

However, partner is responsible for his/her actions. If partner has done something stupid, it's on them. I've seen too many times that trying to "save" partner is absolutely wrong.
