Imp's. I thought it was clear, there'll be a follow-up, though.

IMO Double = 10, Pass = 6. If LHO bids 5, perhaps partner can double.

Sorry, I don't believe in Santa Clause. And I am not helping keep the auction open via double, so they can fix what went wrong. The explanation seems silly even without looking at my hand, and I don't want to inquire further.

I am sure enough about the above, that doubling would be a double shot ---hoping for the TD to roll things back when they get to their club fit.

Aguahombre, are you implying that double is unethical? I can't tell what you are trying to say, lol.

Why would anyone think they will just obviously run to 5c? And even then, think that it would be really likely to make? It's not like we have no defense.

I think the idea is that we have very likely been given misinformation, and this fact should be clear enough to us that we will not get protection when it all ends in tears.

Was 4 alerted? It's shown in a yellow box in the auction, not sure what that implies.

What protection do you think you will get when the 4H bidder has QJxxxx, ATxxxx, -, A and you've failed to make the obvious double?

I'd double even if 4 just showed hearts.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

If you click on the yellow box, it'll tell you what the bid was alerted as showing.

This was played with screens. North alerted her own bid to East.

After East passed and the tray came back with:

West is kind of a busy-buddy. So he bid 5...

Even if North is psyching the 4 bid, double is right because it tells partner about your hand.

If North is trying for a rat tailed Double hand -- DBL Pass Pass 4 DBL Pass Pass 5 where is the real suit, you'll pass and partner will be able to judge better what to do.

What was the actual reason the 4 was alerted?

Could East have asked for an explanation if he wasn't sure about doubling?

In the actual auction, I wonder if East doubling 4 would have stopped West bidding 5, or made it more likely!

Dunno. I never said I agreed with aquahombre, but was explaining what I thought he meant.

I'm quitting bridge if can't make a penalty double of 4 with this hand.

Even if they run to 5, partner probably has some of those, and how many tricks do you think they are taking?

Lol Phil I was going to make almost the same comment. Anyone who doesn't double with this hand is playing the wrong game and probably should try chess or something. What are they worried about? That they will bid 5C with the double but not without it? That them in 5CX is worse for us than them in 4H undoubled? That either of the answers to those questions change by very much depending whether RHO has both majors or only hearts?

I join the club of not having a clue what aguahombre is trying to say...
